Had painted a sheet of paper black, then found a couple scraps of paper and stuck the blue piece at the top thinking of doing something related to Motherwell's 'Open series', but then when I put the yellow down, it gave the impression of light coming through the open space or window. There are tiny flecks of white in the black which gave me the impression of stars, hence, outside....Then of course, when finished, I accidentally dropped a drop of paint on the artwork, and thought, damn, and was going to try and remove it, but after contemplating it for a bit, I realized how round it was, no splatter and perfectly balanced in the composition, it became a sort of 'Ignatz' to the image, to which I realized that this image was subliminally derived from my admiring George Herriman's 'Krazy Kat', who was a genius at creating very wonderful minimal landscapes.

From a young age I was always doodling (drawing), especially during class. I would draw hot rods, airplanes, girls, comic book heros and Mad magazine...
